Ask a question. Roll the die. Discover what happens next.
Does the stranger know more than he’s telling you? Is the passage safe? Will your plan succeed—or come with an unexpected complication?
The Fate Mill D20 Oracle helps you answer those questions and keep your story moving. Designed for solo role-playing, tabletop adventures, and creative storytelling, this virtual twenty-sided die delivers answers ranging from “No, and…” to “Yes, and…”
Sometimes the answer opens a door. Sometimes it puts something interesting behind it.

A Die with a Little History
With its worn black finish, scratched surfaces, and white markings, this oracle looks like it has traveled through plenty of adventures—and is ready for yours.
Watch it tumble, read your answer, and decide what that result means for your story.

How to Use It
- Ask a yes-or-no question. Type it into the optional question field or simply keep it in mind.
- Roll the Oracle. Click the roll button or press the spacebar when you’re not typing.
- Interpret the answer. Use the result to introduce a discovery, obstacle, opportunity, or unexpected twist.
- Keep the adventure moving. You supply the imagination; the die supplies the uncertainty.
For example, you might ask: “Can I get through the gate unnoticed?”
A “Yes, but…” could mean you slip inside—but leave a clue that someone will discover later.
What the Answers Mean
| Answer | Story Direction |
|---|---|
| No, and… | It doesn’t happen, and an additional obstacle appears. |
| No | The answer is no. Try another approach. |
| Maybe, but… | The outcome is uncertain, with a complication to consider. |
| Maybe | Seek another clue or let events unfold. |
| Yes, but… | You succeed, but a cost or complication comes with it. |
| Yes | It happens. Move the story forward. |
| Yes, and… | You succeed, and another benefit or opportunity appears. |
Each numbered face has an equal chance of being rolled. Some answers appear on multiple faces, so straightforward “Yes” and “No” results occur more often than certain twists.
