The Way: A Journey of Faith

An ordinary life. An extraordinary encounter. A choice to follow.

What might your life have looked like in the days of Jesus?

Perhaps you work in your family’s pottery shop, mend fishing nets beside the shore, or dream of taking your skills somewhere new. People depend on you. Responsibilities fill your days. The future seems familiar—until word of Jesus reaches your road.

The Way: A Journey of Faith is a free Christian solo journaling roleplaying game. Create a male or female character living in first-century Galilee, face everyday challenges, and write a personal story that unfolds alongside the Gospel.

As your journey continues, you will encounter Jesus’ ministry, receive the news of His death and resurrection, and decide how your character responds.

Your choices become the story

Using a regular deck of playing cards, one six-sided die, and a journal, you’ll discover situations involving family, work, generosity, uncertainty, forgiveness, and faith.

The cards introduce events. The die helps resolve uncertain practical outcomes. You decide what your character chooses—and write what happens next.

Will you remain in the family business or pursue another path? Repair a damaged relationship or avoid a difficult conversation? When you hear the Gospel, will you follow Jesus, continue searching, or turn away?

The biblical events remain unchanged. Your character’s personal journey can unfold differently each time you play.

Never played a solo roleplaying game?

You’re welcome here. No group, game master, acting experience, or elaborate writing skills are required.

Read a prompt, imagine the situation, make a choice, and write a few sentences. A short paragraph or a handful of bullet points is enough. Play at your own pace and pause after any entry.

The book includes a quick-start guide and a worked example to help you begin.

What’s included?

  • A 48-page illustrated game book.
  • Male or female character creation and six livelihood backgrounds.
  • A twelve-entry campaign across four chapters.
  • Fifty-two card prompts and three Scripture-based encounter routes.
  • Simple rules for practical consequences and ongoing relationships.
  • Character sheets, tracking pages, and guided journal pages.
  • An epilogue and options for continued play.

This game approaches its subject from a Christian perspective. Scripture provides the foundation; your character and surrounding personal story are fictional. Faith, salvation, and God’s love are never determined by dice or earned through a game score.

This is the first public playtest edition, version 0.1. The introductory game is complete and ready to play, but your experience can help improve future editions.

As you play, consider:

  • Were the instructions easy to follow?
  • Did you understand what to do next?
  • Which prompts led to meaningful scenes?
  • Did anything feel confusing, repetitive, or difficult to use?
  • Was there enough space to write?

I’d love to hear what worked, what didn’t, and what would make the experience better.
